1. What is Espalier?

Espalier is a lattice upon which vines or ornamental plants are trained to grow flat. It can be used as the palette for the plant material to rest; or as a conduit to make the plant flow from one area to another. The lattice that Wired for Growth designs and installs is constructed with stainless hardware and wire or cable.

2. Choosing the right plant materials to espalier

In Southwest Florida, some popular plant choices for espalier are: Bougainvillea, Allamanda, Confederate Jasmine, Mandevilla and Thunbergia / Sky Vine. Virtually any plant classified as a vine that will grow in this climate can be espaliered. Wired for Growth will be happy to assist you in choosing the right plant materials you choose to espalier.

3. Where can espalier be installed?

Some popular locations for espalier are: front entries, around windows & garage doors, courtyard and privacy walls, on columns that support arbors - almost any open wall space. 5. Why wired for growth? Can anyone install espalier for me?

There are amateurs (from landscapers to handy men) that are exploiting the popularity of espaliering vines by providing cheap, primitive imitations of Wired for Growth’s espalier.

Cheap and primitive in:

1. Design - virtually none, resulting in visually distracting and unprofessional appearance
2. Materials - substandard, or inappropiate/ineffective for supporting plant material
3. Experience/skill - often random, untrained & unsupervised laborers, highly prone to causing damage to the property. . . and usually in a rush to get back to mowing your lawn.
